Weekend at the Wetlands (August 9-10, 2025)

Visiting shore birds from maybe...Canada?

There was a flock of Forster's Terns on Saturday.

The Black-necked Stilts gave us quite the aerial show.

Spotted sandpiper.

Pie-billed Grebes that eat goldfish bigger than their heads!

I had NO idea this was a thing. Grebes eating goldfish. And running away on the water when they didn't want to share. I thought only Coots ran on the water. Swallowing the fish...gag.

Osprey! There were as many as FOUR hunting at one time...

That is NOT a goldfish...

Sunflowers and Helicopters

Canada Geese

Regular geese...

and a quad-winged goose!

Songbirds

Catching the little birds in flight is quite challenging. Their shapes and wing spreads are pretty cool though.

The rest...

Ruddy Duck

Killdeer

A Great blue Heron, apparently in serious molting mode...

Blue-eyed Darner, or...a dragonfly.

Until next time!

It’s so cool to see the birds up close. I can’t believe you caught some of these events with your camera. I’m thinking you must spend and a lot quite time watching and waiting. Amazing
