Getting there...Moab
Friday Afternoon Arrival:
We picked up dinner and met at a park for a picnic.
Love me some Drucker girls.
Ellen having slide races with Mango.
Munch brought a freind.
Mango was unaware that spinning mama around on this apparatus was going to make her barf.
Our camp at Cherry Creek State Park. The sunset looks like Colorado has some fires going as well.
Saturday:
Saturday morning found Ellen and I hanging out with Mango while Mom and Auntie went to a meeting. We explored curbside water and saved drowning bugs AND made it our mission to hug every tree we could find.
And then, of course, we went thrifting.
Chelsea gifted us this welcome sign and we put it on the camper.
Artwork near the thrift store.
The Pride warmup event was at a little hotel.
We finished the day at Cherry Creek Reservoir. Munch and her friend went for a swim. The rest of us enjoyed the wind with our feet in the water and chatted.
Sunday and the Pride Parade
We made plans to meet up with Evonne, Munch and Maya, a friends daughter, at the parade.
We drove separately and found a pop-up drag show along the way.
Nice 'FITS!!
Folks hanging out of parking garages above the parade.
We FOUND THEM!
Spectator outfits. SO great.
A great T-shirt.
The Parade
Yes we did. SO sweet.
Well done Denver, well done.
Love me some drumming.
They were SO tired...
I mean, this is what it's ultimately about, right?
SAMBA!!
Monday, we drove home early.
The Pocket Fire was burning in the Secret Canyon Wilderness area of Sedona when we left. It had started on June 19th and was holding at 300-500 acres for DAYS. It had bumped up to 1,100 acres when we left on June 25th. Then they had a "wind event". In these events, the wind generally blows hard for 6-8 hours during the day and tends to quiet down in the evenings. Not this one. It blew for 72 hours straight. Kachina Village was put in SET status on Saturday at 8 pm, as well as an adjoining neighborhood. We talked to friends, they came over Sunday morning, took some things out of the house, put them in the Subaru, and moved it to their home across the highway. We attended Pride on Sunday, fretting about what to do. By Sunday night, the fire had jumped to 6,000 acres, and we decided we'd head home on Monday. By Monday morning, they were reporting it at 11,000 acres and zero containment. As of this posting (July 3rd), it is at 23,451 acres, 25% containment, and we were taken off of SET status yesterday and put in READY. What a relief. Tuesday and Wednesday were spent packing and putting sprinklers on the roof, just in case. We've been told this will be a long-term event, given there is no rain in the forecast, but the firefighters are making great progress, the containment lines are holding, and we are very hopeful. They have run three miles of hoses around Kachina Village to run sprinklers should the fire make a run. Oddly enough, the air quality out here is better than in town.
We were sad to have to leave the family early, but glad to get home and take care of business. Here's to continued firefighter safety.

Howdy, wonderful photos as always, especially Mango! We were hoping you got out of town for a bit and hopefully the fire won't get to KV, Glad you got some suppression efforts in for the house and community!
Such a bright and colourful Denver parade. Tree hugging and bug saving was a wonderful thing for you and Mango to do. I hope the fires have left you alone, it’s a very scary prospect….happy to send you Scottish rain!
